The Lankavatara Sutra has an absolutely canonical status in Mahayana Buddhism. This school brought Buddhism to all the countries of East Asia, and in this respect this sutra is fundamental to Zen, which is also popular in this country, and to Tibetan Buddhism. The Sanskrit specialist Karl-Heinz Golzio has filled a gap with an outstanding translation and has made this classic text accessible to German-speaking readers for the first time.
