Chögyam Trungpa offers here much more than just an introduction to the basics of psychology. He describes different states of consciousness, explores the connections between feelings, perceptions and thoughts, and thus allows us to understand firsthand how the ego develops.
Through skillful means, especially meditation, we gain insight into this process and learn to recognize the opportunity to reverse it in some way. For the ego, this is not particularly good news. In its place, the inner potential of our mind can come into play: Any experiences, especially problematic ones, can be transformed and become fuel for self-liberation.
Chögyam Trungpa (1940-1987) was born in eastern Tibet and was one of the most authoritative, widely recognized teachers in introducing Tibetan Buddhism to the West. He combined his great appreciation of Western culture with a deep understanding of his own tradition.
