Venerable Abbot Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche is one of the most profoundly knowledgeable scholars within the Karma Kagyu school and one of the most exceptionally realized yogis. Following a request of His Holiness the XVI Karmapa, he has been teaching in Europe and North America since 1977 in order to introduce the people living there to the higher Buddhist philosophy. In order to create optimal conditions for this, he founded the Kagyü Tekchen Shedra in Dordogne, France and the Marpa Institute for Translation in Kathmandu, Nepal.
In leict understandable form, the different Buddhist views on the ultimate nature of all being are presented here. These views build upon each other and become increasingly subtle in their explanation of ultimate reality.
The entire Buddhist doctrinal structure is divided into the threefold exercise of knowledge acquisition, reflection, and meditation. To determine by logical reasoning what must be true is one thing, but to actually see the world in this way is quite another. And so, in order to lead the reader to a deep understanding of reality, detailed instructions for meditation are given for each stage. By practicing these three practices, and using one practice to reinforce the other, the mists of confusion and the clouds of ignorance will fade away. Knowledge and insight can then shine unimpeded, like the sun breaking through the haze of dawn
